“The Longest Mile”

It took 19 years for Taylor Richards & Conger to move one mile.  Needless to say, the move was deliberate and well planned.  So well planned, in fact, that its new home might be considered just that…..a new home instead of just another location from which to sell clothing.  “The time was right to consider a new venue, a new platform”, explained president Glen Taylor.

By moving to Phillips Place, the premier specialty shopping center located within Charlotte’s Southpark area, Taylor Richards & Conger made the strategic decision to address the needs of its future customers now.  “For us to improve as a store we needed to raise the level of our business a notch or two”, adds Taylor, who has twice before moved the store from its original Specialty Shops on The Park location.

This latest move makes it a neighbor of such notable restaurants as The Palm, Upstream, Il Posto and Dean & Deluca, as well as a host of other nationally recognized retailers.  Partner Richard Pattison adds, “We’re relocating to make a stronger presentation and to enhance our visibility within this market.  Each of our past moves was in response to the city’s growth.  It’s time for another change.”

The new store features an intimate shoe salon, a cherry paneled room with the atmosphere of a man’s study for made-to-measure clothing, and a rustic sportswear shop with stained cement floor and weathered cedar ceiling.  A “coffee bar” provides a pleasant transition to the store’s most obvious addition…TRC W, a shop for the Taylor Richards & Conger woman.

“This space is big enough for us to do what we’ve been doing, add women’s (clothing) in a significant way, and create a section to address a new customer,” Taylor adds.

The idea of creating one space that appeals to the TRC customer and his female counterpart has been Taylor’s dream for years.  Separate entrances for the men’s and women’s shops create a unique identity for each store, but shared vendors such as Brunello Cucinelli and Valentino remind shoppers of the stores’ common origin.  Similarities in architectural details add a cohesive sense of design to the two shops.

The new Taylor Richards & Conger is only a mile from its previous location, but light years away when it comes to providing the perfect setting for the TRC customer, and the TRC W customer, of the future.
